Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego will host the 2024 Major League Rugby championship match on August 4, one year after the San Diego Legion advanced to the final match before losing to New England.

The Free Jacks beat the Legion in last year’s Major League Rugby final, 25-24, at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, the first time the league had its championship at a pre-determined venue since 2019. Last season was the sixth for MLR with 12 teams competing.

This year’s season started earlier in March and will have 12 teams again with Toronto and New York folding, replaced by Miami and a club named Anthem Rugby Carolina, which has been launched by USA Rugby, Major League Rugby and World Rugby as a strategic partnership. The team that was in Atlanta was relocated to Los Angeles. After an 18-week regular season, each conference will seed its top four teams in a single elimination tournament beginning July 20 with the winners squaring off for the MLR Shield.

Snapdragon Stadium will have international rugby this summer before the MLR final when New Zealand and Fiji face off for the first time on American soil on July 19. The venue was home to the 2023 NWSL Championship and the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup semifinals and finals.
