U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team to Host Mexico in New Jersey on July 13
Match at Red Bull Arena Will Feature the 2024 Olympic Team
Posted On: March 22, 2024 By :The U.S. women’s national team will have one of its final matches ahead of the 2024 Olympic Summer Games on July 13 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, against Mexico in what is the inaugural ‘Impact Legacy Match’ organized by the national governing body.
Impact legacy matches will take place annually and will focus on important games in U.S. Soccer history. This summer’s match will feature a U.S. Soccer-organized reunion of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Team, which will celebrate the 25th anniversary summer of its run to the championship that started with a win at the old Giants Stadium against Denmark before culminating with the famous win over China in penalty kicks at the Rose Bowl.
“This will be a fun and inspirational weekend,” said U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone, a member of the 1999 Women’s World Cup Team who scored in the semifinal of that tournament. “The fans will get the chance to show their support for the team before they head to France while also celebrating our 1999 Women’s World Cup team. This is a group of women who did so much for the sport and the impact of that team and tournament is still being felt 25 years later, especially as we bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. I can’t wait to see my teammates and friends.”
The USA and Mexico are bidding together for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the host(s) of which will be decided in May. Mexico beat the U.S. 2-0 in group play of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup this year in San Diego, its second-ever win against the U.S.
The U.S. has played eight times at Red Bull Arena, most recently in a 2-1 win over Germany in November 2022. It has beaten Mexico twice in Harrison, 1-0 in June 2011 and 3-0 in May 2019.
