After hosting Super Bowl LIX earlier this year, New Orleans will welcome back college football’s biggest game in 2028.
Rich Clark, executive director of the College Football Playoff, announced today that the CFP’s Management Committee has selected New Orleans to host the 2028 CFP National Championship at Caesars Superdome on Monday, January 24, 2028. New Orleans will become the third city to host the CFP title game for a second time.
“The College Football Playoff is thrilled to bring the national championship game back to New Orleans in 2028,” said Clark. “Few cities embrace college football quite like New Orleans, with its unmatched hospitality, culture and passion for the game. We know fans, teams and the entire college football community will have an unforgettable experience in one of the sport’s most iconic destinations.”
The matchup marks the second time the Superdome has hosted the College Football Playoff finale, with the first being a Joe Burrow–led LSU victory over Clemson in 2020.
Welcoming the CFP championship means big business for the host city, as Los Angeles brought in a projected $225 million for the 2023 CFP title game, while the 2024 game in Houston generated more than $330 million.
The 2028 contest will be the 14th national championship game in the College Football Playoff format, which went into effect following the 2014 college football season. The two hosts before New Orleans are Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium in 2026 and Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium in 2027.
