The NFL is coming to the City of Light.
The league announced Monday that it would hold its first regular season game in Paris this coming season at the Stade de France, an 80,000-seat venue that is the largest stadium in the country. Because the New Orleans Saints have international marketing rights in that country as part of the league’s Global Markets Program, they will be one of the two participating teams. The other team, as well as the exact date of the game, will be announced when the league’s full schedule is revealed in May.
Starting with a matchup between the Giants and Dolphins at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2007, the NFL has held 62 regular-season games in foreign countries, most in England but also in Brazil, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Mexico and Spain.
In addition to the game in Paris, the league will host its first game in Australia this season, with the Rams hosting a TBD opponent in Melbourne, as well as returning to Brazil, Germany and Spain. The matchup in Australia was announced a year ago in the run-up to Super Bowl LIX.
The game in Paris will be played in partnership with France-based integrated solutions provider GL events with support from the French Department of Sports, Youth and Community Life, the Fédération Française de Football Américain (FFFA), Plaine Commune, Ville de Saint Denis, Ville de Paris, Métropole du Grand Paris and Région Ile de France.
“Bringing a regular season game to Paris in 2026 marks an exciting next step in the continued expansion of the league’s global footprint,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Paris is one of the world’s greatest sporting and cultural cities with tremendous success in hosting global events that unite fans on the biggest stages.”
Stade de France has hosted soccer’s World Cup, the Rugby World Cup and hosted track-and-field events at last summer’s Olympics in Paris, as well as the Closing Ceremony.
“Hosting the first-ever NFL regular season game in Paris is a powerful symbol of France’s growing place on the global sporting stage,” said Marina Ferrari, France’s Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life. “Since [French president Emmanuel Macron] has made sport a national priority – as a driver of social cohesion, international influence and economic attractiveness – and this historic event fully reflects that long-term commitment.”
