The Tennessee Titans’ new stadium isn’t open yet, but it already has one very big event on the schedule: hosting Super Bowl LXIV in February 2030.
The NFL announced Tuesday that the new Nissan Stadium, scheduled to open in time for the 2027 season, will host the league’s championship game at the end of its third season. This will be the first time Nashville has hosted the Super Bowl, though it proved it could handle marquee NFL events when it hosted the 2019 draft to rave reviews, bringing 600,000 people to Music City.
“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. The vision of [Titans owner] Amy Adams Strunk and the Tennessee Titans helped make this moment possible. With great partners at the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. and Tennessee Titans, we can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030.”
The new Nissan Stadium will have a capacity of roughly 60,000. The smallest announced crowd in Super Bowl history (not counting the game played during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021) is the 61,629 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2024, which was also a new building.
‘A Defining Moment’
NFL owners voted 32-0 to have the game in Nashville, and the announcement was made at the league’s spring meetings in Orlando. It is the latest win for a booming sports city that in recent years has hosted the NFL draft, an IndyCar race and 10 of the past 13 SEC men’s basketball tournaments. It will also serve as the base camp for Japan during this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Nashville is also considered a leading candidate to land an MLB expansion team if and when that process yields two new franchises, as has been reported, which would give the city four major pro sports franchises to go with the Titans, the NHL’s Nashville Predators and MLS’s Nashville SC, which debuted at that division in 2020.
“Hosting the Super Bowl is a defining moment for Nashville and Tennessee and reflects years of work to build Music City into a globally recognized destination for music, entertainment, and live events,” said Deana Ivey, Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, president & CEO. “This event is an incredible opportunity to showcase the dynamic and creative character of Nashville to a global audience and to deliver a Super Bowl experience that is distinctly Music City, where music, sports, culture, and hospitality come together in a way few cities can match. We are grateful to the NFL for the confidence they have placed in our community. Nashville has earned a reputation for hosting major events at the highest level, and we are ready to welcome the world.”
The week of festivities leading up to the Super Bowl typically involves NFL Honors (the league’s annual awards show where winners of the MVP and other honors are announced), Super Bowl Experience presented by Jersey Mike’s, Super Bowl Opening Night fueled by Gatorade and more.
“We are thrilled that the new Nissan Stadium will host Nashville’s first Super Bowl in 2030,” said Strunk, who became the Titans’ controlling owner in 2015. “This is an exciting moment for our city and our entire state. We cannot wait for our community to experience an event of this magnitude and for the world to see the energy, hospitality, and culture that make our city so special on a global stage. Thank you to Commissioner Goodell, my fellow owners, and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. for their partnership throughout this process. We look forward to bringing an unforgettable Super Bowl experience to Nashville together.”
A Super Future
Nashville joins the list of upcoming Super Bowl hosts that includes:
- Inglewood, California (SoFi Stadium) in February 2027
- Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium) in February 2028
- Las Vegas (Allegiant Stadium) in February 2029
NFL venues are often proposed, funded and designed with the goal of hosting the Super Bowl. Each of the last nine NFL stadiums to debut have hosted the Super Bowl, and each did so within its first five seasons of existence. That streak could end with the opening this fall of the Buffalo Bills’ new Highmark Stadium, which will be an open-air venue in a city with an average high temperature in February of 31 degrees.
On Location, the Official Hospitality Partner of the NFL, today launched its Priority Access deposit program for Super Bowl LXIV hospitality packages, offering fans the first opportunity to guarantee seats to the game.
