The Sports Facilities Companies, a provider of management and development services for sports, recreation and events venues, has been selected to manage the new Odessa Sports Complex, a $140 million multi-sport destination located in the heart of West Texas.
Planned with a deep inventory of fields and courts, the Odessa Sports Complex is designed to be the largest youth sports complex in Texas. The venue blueprint currently includes 10 basketball courts / 20 volleyball courts, 10 synthetic-turf multipurpose fields and 12 baseball / softball fields, supported by modern guest amenities and event operations spaces.
When complete, the complex will offer a tournament campus experience for traveling teams while also serving as a home base for local leagues and community play.
“The Odessa Sports Complex is a once-in-a-generation investment in our kids and our quality of life,” said Aaron Smith, Odessa’s city manager. “We’re creating a place where local families can practice and compete close to home, while welcoming tournaments that bring new visitors, new spending and new attention to West Texas. Partnering with SFC helps us make sure we get that balance right from day one.”
City leaders and community partners have already highlighted the Odessa Sports Complex as a future hub for youth and adult sports, tournaments and community gatherings, noting its role in expanding both recreational opportunities and sports tourism in the region. Event rights holders from across Texas and beyond have also expressed early interest in bringing multi-sport tournaments to the venue once fields and courts come online.
SFC’s management approach in Odessa will focus on delivering a calibrated mix of community programming and destination events. In practice, that means weeknight leagues, camps, clinics and open-play opportunities for Odessa residents and regional athletes, complemented by weekend tournaments that drive visitor spending at hotels, restaurants and local businesses.
“The heart of this complex is the everyday experience for Odessa families,” said JD Wood, SFC’s regional vice president of strategic development. “It’s a safe, lively place for practice and league play. On the weekend, it becomes a true tournament village that brings teams, spectators and dollars into the local economy. That dual purpose is what makes the venue so powerful for the community.”
A Regional Home for High-Caliber Events
The complex’s design brings together pods of baseball and softball diamonds, multipurpose long fields and core guest amenities that support efficient tournament operations and comfortable experiences for families, creating a new regional home for leagues and high-caliber events.
The city of Odessa engaged SFC early in the project as a development and advisory partner, ensuring the facility is operationally efficient, guest-friendly and built for sustained use from day one. As the complex transitions into full-time operations, SFC will oversee facility management, programming, event booking and community and sponsorship outreach.
“Communities across the country are already talking about what Odessa is building,” Wood said. “As the largest youth sports complex in Texas, this project signals that West Texas is ready to host high-caliber events. Event owners are reaching out before the first field is open, and our job is to turn that early interest into long-term wins for local families, businesses and the broader region.”
Construction and pre-opening planning for the Odessa Sports Complex are underway, with key milestones and opening timelines to be announced as the project progresses. Once operational, the venue will host regular baseball, softball, soccer, football, lacrosse and indoor court events.
Last month, SFC acquired RCI Sports Management, bringing three more facilities into the SFC Network.
