Hong Kong will be the first destination in the 2027 SailGP season, as the sail racing championship moves ahead with its international expansion.
Taking flight on Victoria Harbour on January 23—24, 2027, the Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix will join a 13-event calendar spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East.
In addition, San Francisco returns to the 2027 calendar after a year’s hiatus on April 3—4. It is the second SailGP event in the United States to be confirmed for next year, alongside the New York Sail Grand Prix on June 5—6.
After Hong Kong, the Rolex SailGP Championship will head to Perth, Western Australia, before visiting San Francisco, Bermuda, Halifax and New York on its North American tour. The first event in Europe will be the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth, England, on July 25—26, and its final European destination will be a currently unannounced location in Italy.
The scheduled season will finish with back-to-back events in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, while the season-defining Rolex SailGP Championship Grand Final’s destination will be confirmed in the coming months.
“SailGP’s 2027 season represents a major step forward – reflecting both the scale of our ambition, and the strength of the demand we’re seeing from cities and partners globally wanting to be part of the championship,” said SailGP CEO and Co-Founder Sir Russell Coutts. “Hong Kong is a world-class destination for SailGP – and a venue we expect to deliver strong commercial interest and an unmatched fan experience. Victoria Harbour is built for the close-to-shore stadium racing SailGP is becoming known for around the globe.”
Continued Expansion
SailGP’s ongoing international growth is set to continue in 2027 and beyond due to multi-season hosting arrangements with destinations in key markets. The arrangements are part of the championship’s move to build greater fan engagement and enhance its event experiences over time.
“China represents a strategic long-term growth opportunity for SailGP,” continued Coutts. “Given their rapid rise to be amongst the top countries in Olympic sailing, the strong existing audience interest, and the potential for a future team, we couldn’t be more excited to bring SailGP to Asia’s World City next January, alongside our partners globally and in the region.”
“The Hong Kong SailGP has been awarded with “M” Mark status, which recognizes SailGP as an event that meets the highest standards of pride and confirms Hong Kong’s status as a premier destination for high-octane international competition,” said Raistlin Lau, under secretary for culture, sports and tourism in Hong Kong. “This event will engage our local community in the exhilaration of world-class foiling catamarans, while offering a global stage to showcase our vibrant harbourfront, breathtaking skyline, and world-renowned hospitality, proving that Hong Kong is an unparalleled place to thrill and unwind.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the SailGP team and our dedicated partners who worked tirelessly to bring this spectacular event to our city. Today is just the beginning of an exciting journey toward race day.”
Tickets for 2027 SailGP season events will go on sale in due course, according to the organizers.
2025 Season Milestones
The expansion news follows a record season for SailGP.
The 2025 season featured 12 Grand Prix events for the first time and expanded into four new venues — Portsmouth (United Kingdom), Sassnitz (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland) and Auckland (New Zealand). Its largest fleet yet of 12 teams took to the start line, including the league’s first South American entry (Mubadala Brazil), while two-time Olympic champion Martine Grael was the first female driver in SailGP’s six-year history at the time.
In terms of broadcast audience and social channel growth, the sail racing championship broke its own record for single-event viewership twice (in Australia and Spain) and total social views surpassed 1.65 billion — a 90 percent increase from Season Four.
In addition, Rolex became the title partner of SailGP, while the championship secured multi-season global league partnerships with DP World, Emirates, Accor, KPMG and Fever.
There have been five events on the 2026 SailGP schedule so far, three won by Australia and one each by the United States and Great Britain.
