The esports venue at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, has a new name as Orlando Health has signed a naming rights agreement for the competition space. The 11,200-square-foot venue, first known as The Fortress, will now be called Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress.
The $6 million arena, which opened in 2019 and is home to the university’s Armada esports team, is the largest dedicated collegiate esports venue in the country.
In addition to the naming rights arrangement, Orlando Health and Full Sail University expect to partner on joint research projects focused on improving and understanding the performance factors for gamers. The research effort will include collaboration on a framework for the effective and ample care of esports athletes. Orlando Health will also become the official medical team of the Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress, allowing Orlando Health physicians to be onsite in the arena during esports events.
“For over 100 years, Orlando Health has been an industry leader in serving the health and well-being needs of our community,” said Brett Lewellyn, orthopedic surgeon with Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. “With a growing understanding of the health benefits associated with esports and gaming, it was only natural for us to seek out a partner whose commitment to advancing research, as well as a deep-rooted belief in positively advancing the future of individuals, matched our own. We have found this partner in Full Sail University.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but both sides have committed to using a portion of the proceeds to award $50,000 in scholarships per year during the term of the multi-year relationship to qualifying Full Sail University students.
“Today marks an exciting chapter for our university as we stand alongside our friends and partners at Orlando Health in unveiling the newly renamed Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress,” said Full Sail University President Garry Jones. “The technical prowess of the facility and the innovative ability of our students, staff and faculty, partnered with the medical expertise of Orlando Health will help to propel both of our institutions into the future, while further solidifying our regions impact across the esports, research and the healthcare industries.”
The 4FRONT sports and entertainment marketing agency assisted in the naming rights process.
