The South Korean national soccer team will have a base camp in Guadalajara, Mexico, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The Korea Football Association announced on January 22 that the team would be based at the Chivas Verde Valle training facility, which belongs to Club Deportivo Guadalajara.
After submitting its preferences for base camp options earlier this month, the association was informed that it had been assigned the Guadalajara site, having been its first priority initially.
South Korea will play two Group A matches in Guadalajara, first on June 11 against the European Play-Off Group D Winner (either Denmark, Czechia, the Republic of Ireland or North Macedonia), before facing co-host Mexico on June 18 at the same stadium. It will conclude its group stage campaign against South Africa in Monterrey on June 24.
According to chosun.com, Guadalajara was selected as the base camp for South Korea because of the city’s altitude of almost 1,600 meters above sea level, and it will be conducive for acclimatization training.
FIFA World Cup Preparations
It is also being reported that the Taegeuk Warriors are considering locations such as Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah as potential pre-base camps in the United States due to their similar altitude to Guadalajara.
Elsewhere, the likes of Germany (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), France (Boston, Massachusetts) and Croatia have also formally confirmed their World Cup base camps so far.
