Plans have been revealed for a state-of-the-art, 34,000-seat modular cricket stadium that will be used during the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York this summer.
The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will host eight ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches in June, including one of the world’s biggest rivalries in India against Pakistan on June 9. The venue will also host the India’s game against Ireland on June 5, Pakistan against Canada on June 11 and the United States against India on June 12 among other matches.
The ICC is working with sports venue architecture and design firm Populous on the project.
“Cricket is a truly global sport with a passionate, knowledgeable fanbase and we’re thrilled to partner with the ICC and help bring the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup to the United States,” said Jeff Keas, senior principal at Populous. “The modular, sustainable stadium we’ve designed will create a fantastic experience for both U.S. and international cricket fans and visitors to enjoy watching the world’s best teams and players.”
Beginning construction in February, the stadium’s design will utilize sustainable, temporary solutions while meeting ICC standards. The grandstands, originally used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, are being repurposed for the primary general admission seats, while over 80,000 square feet of hospitality space will include a party deck, fan suites, cabanas and VIP clubs. There will also be a variety of food and beverage outlets plus media and broadcast areas.
The field, designed in Australia, is being grown in Florida and will be transported to New York in early May. The project in Nassau County will be similar to the other two U.S. sites in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Broward County, Florida, which will also use modular stadiums to expand seating, media and hospitality areas.
