Since the ticket draw registration option opened on January 14, LA28 said that it had received an “unprecedented” number of registrations, including 1.5 million within the opening 24 hours, with more than three weeks to go until registration closes on March 18.
Claiming to have averaged 100,000 new registrations each day, LA28 organizers said that fans from all 50 U.S. states had registered. In addition, it was reported that fans from 194 countries and six continents had expressed an interest in attending the Games.
Among a series of major planning milestones, LA28 stated that it had also exceeded $2 billion in commercial sponsorship revenue in 2025.
“As a historic Winter Games concludes, we celebrate the incredible athletes and achievements of so many,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “We are grateful for the millions of people who have expressed interest in joining us in LA in 2028 where more of these stories and dreams will come to life.”

Planning Milestones
While the Olympic Opening Ceremony is more than two years away, LA28 has announced a series of planning milestones that it aims to deliver before and during the Games:
- The LA28 Olympic Games will feature 51 sports across more than 50 competition venues in 24 zones. The LA28 sport program will feature the debut of new Olympic sports such as flag football and squash, along with the return of baseball, softball, cricket and lacrosse. The 2028 Olympic competition schedule is available by day, session and event on the LA28 Games Plan page.
- LA28 wants to bring Olympic events to a number of states across the United States. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will welcome canoe slalom and softball, while group stage and knockout matches of the football (soccer) tournament will take place in New York City; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; San José, California; and San Diego, California. In addition, the Olympic Torch Relay will also pass through all 50 states for the first time,
- LA28 has announced a ticketing donor initiative, featuring the Los Angeles Rams as the inaugural donor with a $5 million pledge to providing free tickets to local residents.
- As planning accelerates ahead of the two-year countdown to the Games, LA28 has doubled in size as an organization in the past year and will grow to more than 5,000 employees by July 2028.
Controversies
The growing enthusiasm for the return of the Summer Olympics to the U.S. for the first time since 1996 has not yet been dampened by a pair of controversies. In recent weeks, concerns have arisen surrounding prominent entertainment and sports agent and chairman of the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Casey Wasserman, following the publication of documents in the United States linking him to disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Wasserman, who has faced calls to step down from his LA28 chair role and has begun the process of selling his talent company after several high-profile clients quit his firm, said he had “no personal or business relationship” with Epstein and has said he “deeply regrets” his conversations with Maxwell, before her alleged criminal involvement came to light.
Wasserman said that the relationship with Maxwell went no further than the exchanges that have already been published in the Epstein files and that he had fully cooperated with the investigation. He has not been accused of wrongdoing and the appearance of his name in the files does not imply criminal activity of any kind.
Meanwhile, ahead of this summer’s Men’s FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified his immigration crackdown through a directive that bans or restricts citizens from at least 75 countries from entering the United States. This directly affects fans of at least 15 nations that have already qualified for the tournament, including Algeria, Brazil, Cape Verde, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, Haiti, Iran, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Uruguay and Uzbekistan.
