Nathan Kopp is the new Executive Director of the Austin Sports Commission. He had most recently served as the Vice President of Sports San Diego, which secured and hosted more than 80 new events — including the Concacaf Wome’s Gold Cup and a NASCAR street race — during his tenure and generated more than 400,000 hotel room nights.
Kopp will be tasked in bringing high-impact sporting events to Austin, one of America’s fastest growing cities. He will oversee business development and supervise the sports sales team while working to align with the larger organizational goals of Visit Austin, which announced his appointment.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nathan Kopp as the Executive Director of the Austin Sports Commission and to the Visit Austin team,” said Tom Noonan, President and CEO of Visit Austin. “Nathan’s extensive background and proven success in event acquisition and fundraising will be invaluable as we continue to market Austin as a premier global destination for sports. His strategic mindset and ability to cultivate deep industry relationships make him the ideal leader to fuel our city’s love of competition and drive significant economic growth for our community.”
In all, Kopp has contributed to the execution of more than 500 major sporting events around the world, including the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. He has held leadership positions with the San Diego Tourism Authority, Competitor Group, and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
Kopp earned both a bacherlor’s degree (in applied arts in sport management) and a master’s (in sport administration) from Central Michigan University.
