The New York City Marathon has been cancelled. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the city had still intended to hold the massive event—which had more than 47,000 participants signed up for 2012—but elected to cancel the race in light of so many New York City residents being without power. It is the first time the race has been cancelled in its 42-year history.
