Accommodations
Whether clients are hosting a youth tournament, collegiate championship, national governing body event or international competition, Puerto Rico offers the lodging inventory and hospitality infrastructure to support sporting events of every size.
With more than 15,000 hotel rooms across branded resorts, select-service properties, boutique hotels and extended-stay accommodations, event organizers have access to a wide range of options that can accommodate athletes, coaches, officials, spectators, VIPs and event staff. From large convention hotels capable of housing hundreds of participants under one roof to resort destinations ideal for championship events and training camps, Puerto Rico provides the flexibility needed to meet virtually any event requirement.
The island’s major lodging hubs — including San Juan, Carolina, Río Grande, Fajardo, Ponce and Mayagüez — offer convenient access to sports venues, meeting facilities, airports and entertainment districts. Many properties feature group-friendly amenities such as banquet space, team dining options, meeting rooms, equipment storage and dedicated event-servicing teams experienced in supporting sports groups.
Puerto Rico’s compact geography is another competitive advantage. Unlike many destinations where participants may be spread across multiple cities, athletes and attendees can often stay within close proximity to competition venues while still enjoying the island’s beaches, culture, dining and attractions.
New and Coming Soon
Puerto Rico will host the inaugural Puerto Rico Bowl in December 2026 at Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel in Bayamón, just southwest of San Juan. The ESPN Events-owned bowl game marks the island’s first NCAA Division I postseason football game and introduces a new platform for collegiate sports tourism in the Caribbean.
Opened early in 2026, the Jump Sports Development Center in San Juan is a state-of-the-art indoor-outdoor multisports complex co-founded by NBA champion José Juan Barea and entrepreneur Ricky Newman. The massive facility features courts and fields for a variety of competitions (including basketball and volleyball), performance training facilities, a sports rehabilitation center and on-site lodging designed specifically for sports tourism.
Sports Venues
The Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot, a.k.a. the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot, is in the San Juan area and seats up to 18,500 fans. The venue hosts major basketball tournaments, volleyball, combat sports and entertainment.
In San Juan, Hiram Bithorn Stadium is the island’s premier baseball venue with an 18,000+ capacity. It has historically hosted Major League Baseball regular-season and winter-season games.

The Puerto Rico Convention Center can be configured for multiple courts, competition areas or large-scale sporting events. Seating capacity accommodates up to 10,000 spectators in sports-event configurations and over 16,000 in theater-style setups. Sporting events at the center include volleyball and basketball tournaments, cheerleading competitions and dance championships.
The Albergue Olímpico, officially known as the Albergue Olímpico Germán Rieckehoff, is one of Puerto Rico’s most important sports and recreational complexes. Located in Salinas, it serves as both a high-performance training center for athletes and a recreational destination for families and visitors. The complex spans approximately 1,500 acres, with facilities that include aquatic and swimming complexes, baseball diamonds, tennis and other multipurpose courts, sports medicine and exercise science, conference and educational space, athlete housing and training accommodations.
Unique Sports, Dining and Entertainment Experiences
A stadium-like experience can be enjoyed at Arena Medalla, a sports restaurant like no other. In San Juan, the place has an incredibly colorful décor that pays tribute to Puerto Rico’s outstanding athletes, a 30-foot multiview panoramic LED screen providing vivid viewing for a variety of sports, facilities for pool, table tennis and arcade games, three karaoke rooms, a stage for live music and one of the best selections of beer in the hemisphere. The food, from mofongo (fried green plantains mashed with garlic, olive oil and crispy pork skin) to sashimi, is first-rate.
If team-building or just some free-time escape is what’s called for, the Capuicú Escape Rooms in Ponce are just the ticket. Featuring group participation in suspenseful (and fun) scenarios like The Mystery of the Continental Hotel and The Chupacabras Infection (involving a legendary creature in Latin American folklore), the experiences are safe, fun and even include snacks and awards ceremonies.
