USA Fencing and the World Fencing League have formed a strategic partnership designed to grow the sport in the United States and globally by connecting elite competition with increased access and participation at the grassroots level.
The World Fencing League is preparing to launch a new professional league in Los Angeles in April aimed at bringing fencing to broader, more mainstream audiences.
Founded by two-time Olympic medalist Miles Chamley-Watson, the league aims to modernize how the sport is presented through high-level competition, athlete-driven storytelling and world-class technology. Olympic champion Lee Kiefer is among the athletes committed to the effort.
Under the new partnership, USA Fencing and the World Fencing League will collaborate on coordinated communications and promotional initiatives to highlight elite competition and promote pathways to participation. USA Fencing will support the World Fencing League’s launch by promoting the league across its national channels and by facilitating connections within the U.S. fencing community. The World Fencing League, meanwhile, will support broader awareness of USA Fencing’s participation and development efforts.
The partnership will also focus on athlete storytelling and community engagement efforts.
“We see the World Fencing League as an exciting opportunity to bring more visibility to fencing and create new pathways for fans and athletes alike,” said Phil Andrews, CEO of USA Fencing. “Our goal is clear: more opportunities for fencers, more eyeballs for the sport and innovation that benefits everyone. As a league founded by a visionary U.S. athlete like Miles Chamley-Watson, getting involved was a natural choice. We’re committed to doing what we can to see this initiative succeed, and we believe its success will be good for fencing at every level.”
“The future of fencing depends on how well we serve the next generation of fans,” said Chamley-Watson. “Our goal is to make elite fencing easier to understand, more compelling to watch, and more connected to real opportunities to get involved. Partnering with USA Fencing ensures that as the professional side grows, the grassroots side grows with it and that’s how you build something that lasts.”
The World Fencing League is backed by global investment group Chiron Sports Group.
