LA28 has unveiled its Paralympic competition schedule by event, detailing when medal events will take place across 14 days of competition during Los Angeles’ first-ever Paralympic Games.
The schedule maps out each medal event across more than 1,100 hours of competition and provides additional detail on all confirmed sports and venues, giving athletes, fans and stakeholders a clearer vision of how the Games will play out in 2028.
Marking the biggest Paralympic Games ever, LA28 will feature 560 medal events (the most since Seoul 1988) and a record 23 sports held in nearly 20 competition venues and seven competition zones throughout the Los Angeles region. All venues will be located within a 35-mile radius in order to deliver a more accessible, athlete-focused Games.
The Paralympic Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2028, at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT, and the Closing Ceremony will be held on August 27, 2028, at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT. As a result, it will be the earliest time that competition has begun in a Paralympic Games.
“The Paralympic Games are a must-see elite sporting event,” said LA28 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans. “As the world’s third-largest sporting event, they celebrate athletic excellence at the highest level, demonstrating relentless determination and the limitless potential and power of sport. With more sports and days of competition than ever before, LA28 is setting the stage for a legendary Paralympic Games.”
“We have the opportunity to break barriers and redefine what the Paralympic Movement and disability representation can mean for the next generation,” said Ileana Rodriguez, LA28 vice-president of Paralympic strategy and relations. “We have the chance to shine a brighter light on more Paralympians than ever before, and I cannot wait for fans everywhere to witness the extraordinary athleticism and unforgettable moments that their performances are sure to bring.”
LA28 Paralympic Sport Debuts
Para Climbing (including eight new events) will make its Paralympic Games debut at LA28, as well as separate women’s classification events in Para Table Tennis and Para Triathlon, and a new relay for athletes with an intellectual impairment in Para Swimming.
In the case of Para Climbing, it marks the first time that an Organizing Committee has added a sport to the Paralympic sports program, following its confirmation to the LA28 program in 2024. The competition will take place across Days 9—12, and the playing field will feature 40 male and 40 female athletes, competing across four medal events per gender.
The International Paralympic Committee Governing Board approved a proposal from the LA28 Organizing Committee to include Para Climbing in the LA28 Paralympic sports program, adding to the 22 sports that had already been approved by the IPC in 2023. In accordance with the IPC Handbook, the Organizing Committee of a Paralympic Games may propose one or more additional events in new sports to the IPC.
Gender Parity
While the LA28 Paralympic Games will feature a record athlete field by size, it is also aiming to have the most gender-balanced athlete quota to date. In total, 45 percent of quota places are being allocated to women (compared to 42 percent at Paris 2024), and Para Archery, Boccia, Para Judo, Para Powerlifting, Para Table Tennis and Para Triathlon are all seeking to achieve gender parity for the first time.
Pre-Opening Ceremony Action
For the first time at a Paralympic Games, competition will get underway before the Opening Ceremony, taking place on Day 0, or August 15, 2028.
The action will begin with Wheelchair Rugby on Day -2 (Sunday, August 13) and Boccia will start a day later, on Day -1 (Monday, August 14). It ensures that no athletes will be eliminated before the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday.
Finals Weekend
The concluding weekend of the LA28 Paralympic Games, from August 25—27, 2028, will feature a “Super Saturday” with 15 final sessions and a last day of competition that will include seven finals sessions and the awarding of 20 medals before the Closing Ceremony.
LA28 Ticketing Information
LA28 Paralympic Games tickets will be made available in 2027 and will be managed by LA28’s Official Ticketing Service Provider AXS and EVENTIM. Hospitality experiences and packages will be offered by On Location, the Official and Exclusive Hospitality Provider for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It comes after four million tickets were sold in the opening window of sales for the LA28 Olympic Summer Games, which opened on April 9 before closing 10 days later. Drop Two of the LA28 Ticket Draw is expected to open in August 2026.
More details on the remaining Paralympic competition venues are set to be announced later this year, including for Para Powerlifting, the Paralympic Marathon, Para Cycling Road and Para Triathlon. All events and sessions of the Paralympic competition schedule remain subject to change.
Although Los Angeles is hosting its first-ever Paralympic Games, it will simultaneously become the third city to host three Olympic Games, following editions in 1932 and 1984.
