Lacrosse has long been a part of Rachael DeCecco’s life. DeCecco, now the Senior Vice President of Lacrosse at the Premier Lacrosse League and Women’s Lacrosse League, was captain of the Princeton women’s team, where she was a two-time national champion, a three-time All America selection and the winner of the Tewaaraton Award, an annual honor given to the most outstanding college lacrosse player.
After 12 years of working in the healthcare sector, DeCecco made the leap back to lacrosse to start working with the Premier Lacrosse League as head of PLL Academy, the PLL’s youth development arm.
From there, DeCecco played a key role in launching the WLL, which debuted in May 2026 and concluded its first full regular season with its inaugural championship at Subaru Park in Philadelphia in mid-August. The game was nationally televised on ESPN.
In this conversation, SportsTravel Associate Editor Augusta Stone talks with DeCecco about the WLL’s inaugural season and her long-term goals for the growth of women’s lacrosse in the United States.
Among the topics discussed:
- Launching the Women’s Lacrosse League
- Growing Lacrosse Through Youth Development
- The WLL’s Touring Model and Host City Strategy
