Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Unified Events will organize the inaugural ‘A Racquet at the Rock’ on December 7 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, featuring ATP stars Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe along with WTA Tour stars Amanda Anisimova and #36 Emma Raducanu.
“It is a tremendous honor for our company, in partnership with Unified Events, to announce this debut of elite professional tennis at Prudential Center,” said Dylan Wanagiel, vice president, sports properties and special events, HBSE/Prudential Center. “While our venue has a long history of hosting marquee events we have not yet seen the likes of ‘A Racquet at The Rock’ featuring some of the best tennis players from all across the world. This is a significant milestone for our team, and will continue to showcase Newark as a leading sports and entertainment destination.”
The will be the first tennis event in the 18-plus year history of the building. The event will pay homage to New Jersey’s tennis history, with more details to be announced. The event is currently scheduled to feature two best-of-three matchups with a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set.
A matchup between 2025 Wimbledon finalist Anisimova, a New Jersey native, facing 2021 U.S. Open champion Raducanu will kick off this evening. Anisimova has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 7 and has advanced to the semifinals of this year’s U.S. Open while Raducanu is ranked No. 35 and in 2001 became the first qualifier in the Open era to win a singles major title
“It’s a special feeling to return to the place where my tennis dreams first began,” Anisimova said. “I am looking forward to playing against one of the best players in the world in Emma and having the opportunity to do so in my original home state of New Jersey.’”
After the women’s match will be a clash between five-time major champion Alcaraz battling against two-time U.S. Open semifinalist Tiafoe. Alcarez is in the semifinals of this year’s U.S. Open as well.
“It is always a lot of fun to be on the court with Frances — we love to compete against each other and I can’t wait to put on a great show for the fans in Newark,” Alcaraz said. “To play again in the metropolitan area with all the amazing fans, it’s something special. They bring such unique energy, and they love tennis so much.”
“Carlos and I have played many incredible matches throughout the years on the biggest stages in the world,” Tiafoe said. “We always bring out the best in each other and I am looking forward to putting on a show for the great fans in the tri-state area.’”
