Ironman and the Augusta Sports Council in Georgia have agreed to a five–year partnership renewal to continue the Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon through 2030. The event includes a 1.2–mile swim, 56–mile bike and 13.1–mile run throughout the Augusta region.
The Augusta Sports Council estimates a total economic impact value of over $76 million since the event started in 2009, with approximately 2,500 registered athletes coming to race each year.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Augusta for further five years,” said Scott Langen, Ironman vice president of operations, North America. “The Ironman 70.3 Augusta race continues to be one of the most popular races in the North American portfolio year after year. We look forward to continuing to build on what we have created here in Augusta since it was first launched in 2009 and welcoming athletes and the community back to this weekend’s race.”
The 2025 Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon took place September 28, following the cancellation of the 2024 event due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. Athletes experienced a 1.2–mile downriver swim in the Savannah River before biking 56 miles through rural Augusta and finished with a 13.1–mile run course through the North Augusta Greeneway trail before crossing the finish line in downtown Augusta.
“Our team is proud to continue serving as hosts of Ironman 70.3 Augusta triathlon for another five years,” said Michelle Pippin, Augusta Sports Council chief executive officer. “Since the inaugural race in 2009, we’ve built strong, lasting relationships with Ironman, The Ironman Foundation, our local partners, and the thousands of dedicated volunteers who make this event not only possible, but successful year after year. We look forward to welcoming athletes from around the world each September and showcasing all that our community has to offer.”
The event offers thousands of volunteer opportunities for residents throughout the region. Additionally, The Ironman Foundation has been providing over $20,000 annually to local charities, with a total of nearly $300,000 in historical giveback in the area.
