Major League Cricket has been granted List-A status by the International Cricket Council ahead of MLC’s second season which starts July 5, recognizing the league as an official T20 league ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup that starts this weekend in Texas.
In addition to List-A status, Major League Cricket Chief Executive Officer Vijay Srinivasan announced plans to expand from what began as a 19-game season in 2023 to a 34-game season by 2025. Six teams are part of this season’s schedule with matches held in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Morrisville, North Carolina.
“We saw cricket mania sweep across the U.S. last year off the back of our inaugural season of Major League Cricket,” Srinivasan said. “Now, we take exciting momentum into the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup and season two of the MLC. With an unforgettable summer of cricket on our doorstep, we’re ready to capture the hearts of American sports fans.”
The A-list status means all statistics in MLC matches will be documented as official career statistics in an internationally recognized format of the game. This will also provide American players the opportunity for international recognition.
The T20 World Cup will start June 1 with the United States playing Canada in Grand Prairie, Texas. Broward County, Florida, and Nassau County, New York, will also be U.S. sites with 16 games in pool play scheduled between the three sites.
