Visit Sarasota County and Sarasota BMX will be hosting UCI BMX World Cup events in both 2026 and 2027 at the local BMX track that will serve as qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles.
The events will be from October 31 through November 1 in 2026 and October 2–3, 2027. First built in 1974, the Sarasota BMX track is the oldest continuously running BMX track in the United States.
“We are thrilled to welcome back the UCI BMX Racing World Cup to Sarasota in both 2026 and 2027,” said Pete Harvey, Visit Sarasota County director of sports. “Hosting these events in the lead-up to the LA2028 Olympic Games is an incredible opportunity to showcase our community’s passion for sports on the world stage.”
The UCI BMX Racing World Cup consists of eight rounds across four international venues each year. The Sarasota BMX track less than a decade ago added lighting and electric improvements to the venue along with higher ramps for international competition.
“Most of these facilities are owned by the County,” said Harvey. “Our relationship with them and their vision to see that sports tourism can coexist within this community is what makes this possible. We work collaboratively to put together a long term plan, meeting monthly to see what’s out there. It’s not a relationship that a lot of communities have.”
