Major League Soccer has unveiled its new global headquarters at 2 Penn Plaza in New York City.
The move to the new office takes place with immediate effect. The new space across two floors and 126,000 square feet will be almost double the square-footage of the league’s previous headquarters nearby at 420 Fifth Avenue.
Located between West 32nd and 33rd streets, the new office will also feature more than 80 meeting and collaboration spaces and a purpose-built, technology-enabled global operations hub that will be designed around an “office as a stadium” concept and serve as the home for the MLS’ Match Day Center Operations Hub.
Designed by New York City-based design firm TPG Architecture, the office’s concept and interior design are meant to mirror the energy and movement of the game, as well as bring the experience of a stadium into the workplace, through its “Office as a Stadium” idea. Additional features include player-inspired entry moments in a Central “Midfield” Hub and locker room-style environments, immersive displays, a central trophy installation and living champions wall.
The space will also incorporate digital displays along with curated memorabilia and artifacts to represent all 30 MLS clubs. Signage will feature live match data and finishes, while the lighting has been inspired by the original 1996 MLS official match ball.
From an experiential perspective, a centralized command center will be responsible for monitoring and supporting all MLS matches, placing league operations, real-time sports data and live camera feeds all into one single location.
Changes for the New Season
A number of changes were made for the 2026 MLS season, which began in February and will end with MLS Cup on December 18.
That will be the latest finish in the league’s history, and with good reason: MLS incorporated a six-week break into its schedule to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the first men’s FIFA World Cup to take place on American soil since 1994. The break will last from May 25 through July 16.
In addition, limitations on the number of “Cash for Player Trades” and intraleague loans have been eliminated, while domestic player definitions for transfer purposes have also been relaxed.
While teams will play 34 matches in the 2026 MLS season, it will be the final full season to take place in a spring-to-autumn format. The league will instead revert to a summer-to-spring schedule starting in 2027, putting it more in line with its European counterparts.
