The 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series will begin March 2–5 in DuPage County, Illinois, when the FMC Natatorium at Ty Warner Park in Westmont hosts the first stop on the road to select Team USA for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The event will be hosted by the DuPage Sports Commission and will attract up to 400 swimmers, their families, and spectators for 28 swim events over four days. The meet will serve as a qualifier for athletes to compete at the Phillips 66 International Team Trials, which will take place April 26–30 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and decide the U.S. rosters for the 2022 FINA World Championships in Hungary. It will also determine the team for the World Junior Championships, which had been scheduled for Kazan, Russia, before FINA made the decision to cancel the event.
The March event in the series had initially been scheduled for Des Moines before FINA recently changed the international swim schedule and announced a world championships this year in Hungary. A January event to begin the series in Knoxville was also canceled because of the pandemic.
“I would like to thank Maryann Kaufman and their team at FMC Natatorium for moving so quickly on this opportunity,” said Westmont Mayor Ron Gunter. “Additionally, thanks to Beth Marchetti and the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau for their hard work behind the scenes to help make this happen. This outcome demonstrates the value we receive by being partnered with the DCVB and other groups that support local tourism. Along with the Midwest trials for the U.S. Luge Team, Westmont is now host to two events that lead to the Olympics.”
Among the athletes scheduled to make appearances are Ryan Murphy, Katie Ledecky, Michael Andrew, Lilly King, Cody Miller, Lydia Jacoby and Caleb Dressel.
